      Mr. Xia Zehan, Director of UNESCO Representative Office in China.
      Mr. Xia joined UNESCO in 2008 as the Director of the Division of Water Resources and Sustainable Development in the Natural Sciences Sector at UNESCO Headquarters. He has spent the last 31 years in civil engineering, hydrology, environmental law, environmental economics and international environmental science. Prior to joining UNESCO, he worked in research, consulting and policy in Australia and Pakistan. His work has also been highly recognized in China, where he received the Chinese Government Friendship Award in 2019 and the Beijing Great Wall Friendship Award in 2017. He also served as Director of UNESCO’s Asia Pacific Bureau of Science in Jakarta, Indonesia, and UNESCO Representative in Indonesia, Brunei Darussalam, Malaysia, the Philippines and Timor-Leste.
     He received his BSc (Hons) in Civil Engineering from Lahore University of Engineering and Technology, Pakistan in 1990, MSc (1992) and PhD (1995) in Civil Engineering from the University of Birmingham, UK, MSc in International Environmental Law from Macquarie University, Australia (2005) and MSc in Applied Environmental Economics from Imperial College London, UK (2007).
