Introduction to the Working Languages of the UN International Organizations Program

Project Description:
In June 2020, the Opinions of the Ministry of Education and Other Eight Departments on Accelerating and Expanding the Opening of Education to the Outside World in the New Era emphasized the need to adhere to the unshakable opening of education to the outside world, to take the initiative to strengthen mutual appreciation, tolerance and interoperability with countries around the world, to form a more all-round, wide-ranging, multi-level and more proactive situation of opening up education to the outside world, and proposed to enhance the international competitiveness of China’s higher education talent training and accelerate the cultivation of high-level international talents with global vision.Language is a carrier of information, a tool for people to understand the world, a means of communication and a means of exchanging ideas. Foreign language learning is to empower ourselves to recognize new cultures, understand new thinking, and explore new world by mastering one or more non-native languages. Foreign languages are both an artifact to help us understand the outside world and a tool to tell our story to the outside world. Today’s world landscape is moving towards multipolarity. China, entering a new era, is actively participating in global governance, firmly practicing multilateralism, advocating the building of a community of human destiny, and promoting the construction of “One Belt, One Road”. Nowadays, transnational exchanges and cooperation are more frequent, and there is an urgent need to strengthen the capacity of independent training of talents and accelerate the establishment of competitive advantages in human resources. There is an urgent need for a large number of high-end talents who are native Chinese speakers and have not only national sentiment, international vision and cross-cultural communication skills, but also a solid professional foundation, complex professional background and multilingual communication skills.
The “Introduction to the Working Languages of the United Nations International Organizations Program”, in cooperation with higher education institutions, aims to improve the comprehensive application ability of second and third foreign languages of college students, cultivating a large number of high-quality international composite talents who are proficient in one and multiple foreign languages, and are proficient in one and multiple abilities (professional, multi-language communication and writing ability). In order to provide support for further promoting the construction of the Belt and Road and talents training for international organizations, we will earnestly cooperate with the global governance of universities and the talents training push plan for international organizations.
