Position 1

Intern – Montreal Protocol Unit

Country: Austria

Duty Station: Vienna

Internship Duration: 3-6 months

MINIMUM ORGANIZATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Age: Minimum 20 years on the first day of the internship.

Education: Enrolled in a university degree programme; or begin the internship within one year of completing a university degree; or completed a university degree and be sponsored as part of an academic or development programme.

Field of specialization: Science, Engineering, Economics, Business and Public Management, Psychology

Languages: Fluency in written and spoken English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) is an asset.

 

GENERIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Intern shall work under the direct supervision of an Officer designated by the Director of the Division of Circular Economy and Environmental Protection. The Intern shall be engaged as follows:

a) Exposed to the regular core functions of the Division and respective Unit and as such shall have the opportunity to observe the day-to-day operations and engage in on-the-job training in specific actions delegated by the Supervisor;

b) Engaged in a specific self-contained assignments described below:

  • Assist with project development and monitoring tasks;

  • Research existing investment models to promote the sustainable development goals and assist to develop a new funding scheme including the supporting work needed for the formulation of internal policies;

  • Assist the formulation and implementation of the divisional and unit level monitoring framework;

  • Conduct research or investigation work on a topic agreed upon in consultation with the supervisor for a possible presentation at the end of the internship;

  • Join the public relations task team of the Division and Unit, and carry out assigned tasks;

  • Proactively participate in the discussion and training opportunities in the organization and department and share what was learned with her/his colleagues;

  • Monitor their own work by filling out work records/plan and have regular consultation meetings with the supervisor on the work load, thematic interests, and team work.

c) Other Special emerging Projects that may enhance the learning experience of the Intern.

The Intern will be required to prepare an end-of-internship report, which will be submitted to and cleared by UNIDO Internship Coordination.

 

Position 2

Intern – UNIDO Country Office in Kenya

Country: Kenya

Duty Station: Nairobi

Internship Duration: 3-6 months

Age: Minimum 20 years on the first day of the internship.

Education: Enrolled in a university degree programme; or begin the internship within one year of completing a university degree; or completed a university degree and be sponsored as part of an academic or development programme.

Field of specialization: environment, economics, business administration, ICT or a field relevant to UNIDO’s mandate and service areas.

Languages: Fluency in written and spoken English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) is an asset.

Other skills: Proficiency in the use of standard software applications. Previous exposure in project management is an asset.

 

GENERIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The intern shall work under the direct supervision of an officer designated by the UNIDO Country Representative and be engaged as follows:

a. Exposed to the regular core functions of the Country Office and as such shall have the opportunity to observe the day-to-day operations and engage in on-the-job training in specific actions delegated by the supervisor.

b. Engaged in a specific self-contained assignment described below:

  • Support the Country Office to promote and implement the self-starter Programme for Country Partnership (PCP) Kenya and its technical cooperation (TC) activities, through on-demand based project identification and development, resource and partnership mapping, and reporting.

  • Support UNIDO’s participation in the SDG Partnership Platform technical working groups.

  • Support collection and consolidation of information and data for reporting of UNSDCF reports and in UNINFO.

  • Participate in UN technical working group, seminars, meetings, conferences and other stakeholder meetings and prepare briefs for the office.

  • Assist with ICT procedures in the organization of meetings, workshops, seminars, and other similar activities, supporting with the setup of hardware and software tools

  • Compile best practice and lessons learned on key thematic areas of UNIDO’s interventions

  • Assist with the organization and reporting of meetings, workshops, seminars and other similar activities

  • Support communication of UNIDO initiatives and activities.

  • Provide ICT support to the field office and project staff: Implement, manage and maintain ICT services; provide onsite support of ICT; maintain communication systems and equipment; set up and administer ICT security systems and maintain/follow up appropriate maintenance contracts for all ICT equipment.

  • Perform duties as assigned.

c. Support other special emerging projects that may enhance the learning experience of the intern.

The Intern will be required to prepare an end-of-internship report, which will be submitted to and cleared by UNIDO Internship Coordination.

 

Position 3

HR Intern

Country: Austria

Duty Station: Vienna

Internship Duration: 3-6 months

Age: Minimum 20 years on the first day of the internship.

Education: Enrolled in a university degree programme; or begin the internship within one year of completing a university degree; or completed a university degree and be sponsored as part of an academic or development programme.

Field of specialization: Economics, IT, Communication, Designing, Engineering, Law, Business Administration, Human Resources Management, archiving, librarianship, or international development/international organizations or related field.

Languages: Fluency in written and spoken English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) is an asset.

Other skills: Experience in data science, data analytics and other IT skills would be considered an asset.

 

GENERIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Intern shall work under the direct supervision of an HR Officer in COR/HRS/TPA or COR/HRS/ESR, designated by the Chief of Human Resources Services. The Intern shall be engaged as follows:

a) Exposed to the regular core functions of the Unit and as such shall have the opportunity to observe the day-to-day operations and engage in on-the-job training in specific actions delegated by the Supervisor.

b) Engaged in a specific self-contained assignment described below:

Talent Planning and Acquisition Unit (COR/HRS/TPA)

  • Assist in HR planning, outreach activities and briefing sessions with member states;

  • Assist in HR data analysis and other tasks assigned by the Chief of HRS and Supervisor

Employee Services and Relations Unit (COR/HRS/ESR)

  • Study the work and functions of the Human Resources Services in general and the Employee Services and Relations Unit (ESR) in particular;

  • Assist with preliminary legal research and analysis of matters related to conditions of service, allowances and other HR policy matters for further review conducted by the supervisor;

  • Support ESR team members in data analysis review exercises and reporting for auditing and monitoring purposes;

  • Support the development and implementation of standard operational procedures in the areas of benefits and entitlements and social security;

  • Assist in the implementation of HR Manual and digitalization processes;

  • Conduct research, draft presentations and perform other tasks as assigned by the Supervisor.

c) Prepare an end-of-internship report; to be submitted to and cleared by UNIDO Internship Coordination.

d) Other Special emerging Projects that may enhance the learning experience of the Intern.
