International Document Writing

Course Description:
This course introduces the requirements, characteristics, writing methods and paradigms of special official documents used for international liaison between countries, between countries and the United Nations and other governmental and non-governmental international organizations, as well as other foreign affairs activities and international economic and trade transactions. Students will be trained to master the skills of writing foreign-related documents and improve their ability to write foreign-related documents. Analyze the international official documents specifications and the difficulties and key points of language, common expressions, etc., to enhance students’ understanding and application of each kind of official document. Students will be able to identify the mistakes in international official documents due to the influence of Chinese writing habits, which will deepen their grasp of the principles of international official writing. The main contents include: the characteristics of international official writing, national official documents, international social official documents, international speeches, international announcements, international statutes, international business, daily foreign official writing, etc.

Faculty Profile:

Kaihe Chen: He is currently Vice Dean of the School of Journalism and Communication and Head of the Department of Journalism at Peking University, Director of the Institute of Culture and Communication at Peking University, and is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Chinese Journalists Association, Executive Director of the Chinese Journalism History Society, Vice Chairman of the Research Committee on the History of Foreign Journalism and Communication of the Chinese Journalism History Society, and Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the Journalism Spring and Autumn magazine. He has a bachelor’s and master’s degree in International Politics from Peking University and a doctorate in Politics and Public Administration from the University of Hong Kong. He has participated in academic exchanges in many countries, including the United States, Japan, Korea, Sweden, Lebanon, and Oman. His main teaching and research areas are transnational communication and international relations; the history and current situation of foreign news communication, and media and cross-strait relations, teaching courses such as “Media and International Relations”, “Globalization and Communication”, “Media and Chinese Society”, and “History of World News Communication”. He has chaired and completed several national ministry projects and participated in major projects of the National Social Science Foundation such as “Research on the Cultural Soft Power of China’s Foreign Communication” and “Research on the Global Communication and Identity of the Chinese Communist Party under the Unprecedented Change of the Century”, and has been a judge of the China Journalism Award and the Changjiang Taofen Award for many times.
